Respite Care Ministry

Alzheimer's Respite Care provides a respite or short time of rest to the caregiver of a family member who has Alzheimer's. Our program offers the caregiver a four hour break from daily duties while the person with dementia engages in stimulating activities with new friends and trained, dedicated volunteers.  Alzheimer's Respite Care was established in 2012 under the guidance of the Capital of Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The chapter has provided training for our volunteers and guidance for the content and structure of our respite care program.
Alzheimer's Respite Care meets every Tuesday from 9:30 am until 1:30 pm.  Activities include entertainment, games, music, exercise and crafts.  A lite mid-morning snack and a hot lunch are provided for all participants.
Alzheimer's Respite Care participants are in the early to mid-stage of Alzheimer's and are capable of eating, mobilizing, and toileting independently. Our volunteers maintain a relaxed and calm atmosphere and are trained to understand the skills and patience required while working with participants. Participants receive one-on-one attention, a chance to get out of the house and socialize with others, an opportunity to be around others with similar challenges, and time away within a safe environment with activities structured for their abilities and needs.
